Description
The L293D is a widely used quadruple H-bridge motor driver IC designed for controlling the direction and speed of up to two DC motors or one stepper motor. It features four H-bridge drivers, allowing for bidirectional control of the motors, meaning it can drive motors forward, reverse, or stop, as well as control their speed using pulse-width modulation (PWM). Each H-bridge can handle a continuous current of up to 600 milliamps (0.6A) and a peak current of up to 1.2 amps per channel, with a maximum operating voltage of 36V. The L293D includes built-in diodes for flyback protection, which protects against voltage spikes generated by the inductive loads of the motors. Its ease of use and integration make it ideal for robotics, automation, and other motor control applications. The L293D is favored for its versatility and ability to drive motors with varying voltage and current requirements.
